The series In Bloom is a showcase of five paintings created in a collaborative effort by the artists that attend the Mai-Wel Exploring Visual Arts classes.

A collective vision for a seasonal theme of spring inspired the choice of colour and various elements of art. Ocean hued blues, sunset oranges, pinks, fresh greens and vibrant pops of colour to portray new blooms in flower.

The works symbolise new life, growth, freshness, frivolity and light. Mark making with a variety of materials including the use of leaves and other organic matter to create patterns and rhythm were one of the ‘art in play’ highlights throughout a few of the works. The materiality of paint was also explored through the fluid nature of drip painting, to thicker impasto style application. The use of paint markers provided another avenue for self expression.
