The MRAG Collection has a large number of historical and contemporary images of Maitland which make up the Images of Maitland sub-collection. Historical images of Maitland include photographs and engravings of Maitland in flood in 1864, 1893 and 1955, as well as pages from newspapers from the 1800s featuring articles about Maitland and hand-coloured wood engravings. Contemporary images of Maitland include photographs, paintings on canvas, and paintings, drawings and prints on paper.

This photograph is from a series of photographs by Michel Brouet of people and places in Maitland, created for the MRAG curated exhibition, Shot in Maitland, 20 October -3 December 2006.
This work was from an MRAG curated exhibition, View of Maitland from the riverbank (with apologies to Jan Vermeer and View of Delft), 1 July – 20 August 2006. MRAG invited 12 artists to the Maitland riverbank to paint ‘en plein air’, referencing the Vermeer painting View of Delft to create works with their own individual perspectives and styles for the group exhibition.
