Make a Puppet Portrait 

Join Annie to learn how to create a puppet portrait at home. This activity is inspired by Claudia Moodoonuthi’s portrait, Mrs Gabori, currently on display in the MRAG Collection show Hello Again – it’s nice to see your face.

Make Soft Sculpture Portraits 

Do you remember the Alan Jones soft sculpture portraits of his family that Anna told us about in the video above? We are going to show you how to make soft sculpture portraits at home. Here we go!

 

Make a two-sided portrait inspired by Terry Stringer’s sculptures featured in the exhibition ‘A Passion Shared’.

Need to get your hands on some clay? Our friends over at Cleverpatch have everything you need. Play dough will also work, here’s a link to a great recipe! 

 

 

Make an enchanted self portrait inspired by Helen Hopcroft’s exhibition.

Helen’s portrait’s often look like they have fallen from the pages of a fairy-tale, what kind of enchanted story will your portrait tell?

Make your own cardboard loom and textile artwork inspired by Bonsai Woman aka Vicki Cornish’s installation ‘Stay’ currently on exhibition in the Gallery Shop.

Stay is a 4m high installation crafted through a process of sourcing, dyeing, spinning and weaving Alpaca fleece and raw linen yarn.

Whilst there is a pause on regular Gallery programming we’ve created a very special Free Art Sunday activity for you to create at home. In this video MRAG Art Tutor Genevieve shows you how to make a rainbow bouquet inspired by the Waiting for Equality exhibition.

Be inspired by BULANYDJAN Dorothy Djukulul and weave a Karritjar (water python).

Have some fun experimenting and trying different materials. Paddle pop sticks can be substituted with twigs from the garden, and if you don’t have wool, try using some thin curling ribbon.

Featured in the Guns to Roses exhibition, Shonah Trescott’s work ‘Kyoto Protocol’, 2015, uses printmaking to make a statement about how we treat our environment. Read more about the artist’s work here.
