Volunteer

Volunteers are an important and highly valued part of our operations

Our team of volunteers come from all walks of life and have diverse skills. What binds us together is our shared passion for art, ideas and community.

The Gallery Volunteer team has two key functions:

Visitor Services & Gallery Guides

Volunteers working in Visitor Services are a friendly face for the Gallery. They monitor artworks, share their knowledge about the Gallery, art and artists, creating a welcoming environment.

Task Force

Task Force volunteers provide invaluable support to the Gallery in many ways including hospitality at events, mailouts, shop assistance and administrative duties.

Internships

Maitland Regional Art Gallery offers a structured internship program in partnership with Newcastle University and University of Sydney.  The Gallery does occasionally host tertiary students to assist with and learn about specific programs and events. The content and duration of any internship must be negotiated between the Gallery and the relevant higher education institution.

Work Experience

Each year Maitland Regional Art Gallery makes a few placements available for secondary school students undertaking structured workplace learning or work experience. These placements fill quickly. It is advisable to contact the Gallery early in the year.
