2016 Brenda Clouten Memorial Travelling Scholarship for Young Achievers in Visual Arts

March 20, 2016 | 12:00 am — September 16, 2016 | 12:00 am

Background to scholarship
Brenda Clouten was 60 when she passed away from breast cancer after first being diagnosed in June 1999. After chemotherapy and treatment she had the all clear until June 2001 when we were told it was to be terminal. She soldiered on for another three years. Brenda had lived in the Maitland area for more than twenty five years and spent the last sixteen years of her life at Largs.

Brenda was an amazing person: always seeing the good in everyone, always putting others before herself. Even at her sickest moments she would always ask  how you were. She derived a lot of pleasure from the arts. She loved the ballet, musicals, theatre and all things arty. She loved the good things in life and always lived for the moment. The scholarship in Brenda’s name is our way of creating a lasting memorial that will give benefit to young, upcoming talent in the Hunter Region and keep Brenda alive in our hearts.

Now in its twelth year, the Brenda Clouten Memorial Travelling Scholarship for a Young Achiever in the Visual Arts has highlighted some amazing young artists, all of whom have gone on to carve out successful careers in their chosen fields. We feel  very honoured to have helped them realise their dreams.
Vicki and Bruce Woods (scholarship founders)
