Creative expression in dealing with depression

October 13, 2012 | 12:00 am

Depression affects one in five Australians. For some, depression is short-term; for others, it is a recurring motif throughout their lives. Depression often causes people to withdraw and become lost in their feelings, whereas art activities offer a means to release negative emotions, reconnect with yourself and with other people.

Facilitator: Karen Adler is an Art Therapist and has suffered from depression and anxiety. Arts therapy is the means she found to be most beneficial for both understanding these emotional states and for ensuring they have no further place in her life.
