Euan Macloed, Self portrait with 2 striding figures, 2002, oil on canvas, 65 x 50 cm

Euan Macleod: Portraits

August 26, 2011 — October 1, 2011

Free

Euan Macloed, Self portrait with 2 striding figures, 2002, oil on canvas, 65 x 50 cm

A series of portraits by Euan Macleod, featuring well known personalities from the Australian art world, including a portrait of MRAG’s own director, Joe Eisenberg.

The retrospective exhibition is simply and aptly entitled Portraits and depicts Macleod’s family, friends and a rich tapestry of people from his life, including several publicly known figures.

Macleod’s gaze has a way of revealing the secrets of his subjects – aging, ugliness, faults and moodiness. His portraits are vigorous and gestural and often treat the subject unmercifully.

MRAG and Maitland City Council are pleased to bring Portraits to Maitland in conjunction with another Macleod exhibition in the Hunter. A selection of the artist’s landscape paintings entitled Surface Tensions will be featured at Newcastle Regional Art Gallery.
