A SURVEY EXHIBITION CELEBRATING TWO SYDNEY PRINT WORKSHOPS

Limited edition and unique state prints from Sydney’s leading printmakers, Michelle Perry (Marnling Press) and Diana Davidson (Whaling Road Studio), exploring the possibilities of printmedia, with significant Australian contemporary artists. This show will include works by Jasper Knight, David Serisier, Dorothy Napangardi, James McGrath, Charles Cooper, Graham Kuo, Suzanne Archer, Steven Harvey, Alun Leach-Jones, Ann Thomson, Elisabeth Cummings, Euan McLeod, Fan Dongwang, Syd Ball

MARNLING PRESS

Marnling Press is a print workshop, owned and operated since 1983 by master printmaker Michelle Perry, publishing and printing fine art limited edition prints and specializing in silkscreen and relief. The workshop has produced editions and portfolios for individual artists, museums and fundraising bodies as well as featuring in survey exhibitions with Whaling Road Studio at New England Regional Art Museum, Wilson Street Gallery and Marianne Newman Gallery.

An accomplished artist printmaker, Michelle’s own work has been featured in various group and solo exhibitions at galleries including Dickerson Gallery and Delmar Gallery.

Artists represented in the Marnling Press collection include: Suzanne Archer, Syd Ball, John Beard, Charles Blackman, David Boyd, Fred Cress, Elisabeth Cummings, Robert Dickerson, Nora Heysen, Hanna Kay, Peter Kingston, Robert Klippel, Jasper Knight, Graham Kuo, Alun Leach-Jones, James McGrath, Ann Thomson and Salvatore Zofrea as well as various Utopia artists including Ada Bird Petyarre and Minnie Pwerle.

Portfolios printed at Marnling Press include: Millenium Portfolios 1 and II (New England Regional Art Museum), ‘Cancer Council Women’s Portfolio’, ‘Art & Music’ curated by Kay Lanceley, Sydney Children’s Hospital’s ‘Platinum Collection’ and Blackman portfolios, ‘Celebration’, ‘Schoolgirls’, ‘Alice’, Gardens’, ‘Girls and Flowers’ and David Boyd’s ‘Music & Angels’.

Perry has lectured in Printmaking at the Natinal Art School and College of Fine Arts, UNSW and was a presenter at the 2005 Print Symposium at the National Gallery of Australia,

WHALING ROAD STUDIO

Owned and operated by Diana Davidson, Whaling Road Studio, situated in North Sydney, specializes in etching, relief and monotypes.

Davidson is represented by Australian Galleries, Sydney. She has worked as a master printmaker since 1978 producing a remarkable body of work by leading Australian artists including John Beard, Charles Blackman, Arthur Boyd, Elisabeth Cummings, John Firth-Smith, Donald Friend, Robert Jacks, Peter Kingston, Bandjuk Marika, Dorothy Napangardi, John Peart, David Serisier, Garry Shead, Jeffrey Smart, Tim Storrier and Ann Thomson.

In 2005 Mosman Galleries held a major survey exhibition ‘Bon a Tirer’, showcasing the Whaling Road Studio archive. Whaling Road and Marnling Press survey exhibitions have been held previously at New England Regional Art Museum, Wilson Street Gallery and Marianne Newman Gallery.

Davidson has lectured in Printmaking at the National Art School and College of Fine Arts, UNSW and has been an invited guest lecturer at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
