METAL CRAFT CLASSES
I love working with metal , a material that has so many variations all of which resist you all the way but can produce beautiful precious object that will last for years.
Metal craft classes will show you how to use basic jewellery techniques to make jewellery and small object from various metals such as sterling silver, brass, copper, nickel silver, titanium and gold.
The course is aimed at beginners and those who have dabbled before.
Classes are held at Maitland Regional Art Gallery for 8 week blocks during school terms from 10.15am till 2.30pm on Tuesdays.
Maitland gallery has a great learning space with a lovely atmosphere and great café.
We start by use simple techniques such as riveting , sawing ,drilling and filing with inexpensive materials to develop basic skills.
All tools that you need to start are provided.
You pay for consumables i.e. Saw blades, drills and metals etc.
There is no cost for metal for your first piece.
You will be provided with information on material and tool suppliers.
My hope is to instil basic skills and information that you can use in your own home workshop so that you can get as much pleasure out of this craft as I do.
I have worked in the jewellery trade for around 30 years and have taught jewellery as a craft and for per- apprenticeship training for 24 years.
I will teach soldering but only after students have completed 6 weeks of basic training.
