The exhibition Passchendaele: photography and the moving image in battle is part of a number of activities being organised by a group of Maitland based organisations with a focus on local connections to Passchendaele and as a way to invite Maitland community participation in remembering World War I.

Many men from Maitland and the surrounding localities participated in Passchendaele, as did ‘Maitland’s Own’, the 34th Battalion. Both these facts provide anchors for the planned activities, and each of the activities and events has a different specific purpose.

The MRAG exhibition aims to focus on photography and World War I, especially photographs of the Battle of Passchendaele and specifically those taken by Frank Hurley. Including in the exhibition at MRAG will be the film Fighting In Flanders which is on loan from the Australian War Memorial as well as studio portraits of local residents who served at Passchendaele.
