a place to call yours explores the idea of “paracosm”: an imaginary world that exists within one’s own mind. This work combines both imaginary worlds of childhood and remembered worlds of adulthood, creating a moment where imagination and nostalgia interweave so that shared experiences may flourish. This installation is a created 1960s to 80s living space, designed to trigger moments of nostalgia and to provide a comfortable space in which to explore memories of times passed. But this space is also designed to promote an imaginary journey in children and adults alike, with interspersed surreal characters to discover in an environment that promotes personal storytelling. a place to call yours aims to bring both the nostalgic world and imagined world together, so that adults and children can share a subconscious experience, visiting and revisiting the wonderment and joy of paracosms.
