Maitland Regional Art Gallery’s collection is now accessible to the community from the comfort of home, with the culmination of an extensive digitisation project bringing the entire collection online.
A major milestone in Phase One of Council’s Digital Collections: Opened Minds project, the digitisation and accessibility of the Collection was identified as a priority for the Gallery in early 2020.
This ambitious project was led by Collections Curator Cheryl Farrell who worked hard with our team here at the Gallery to realise this project.
Over 6000 of the City’s works of art can now be explored and enjoyed by the community, students, historians and researchers.
The next step in the project, supported by the NSW Government Regional Cultural Fund, is documenting and archiving the collections of Maitland Library, Maitland Gaol, Morpeth Museum and Maitland Hospital.
That process began this week at the Gaol, and will continue in the weeks and months to come.
