MRAG secures two NSW Government grants to boost free programs
Maitland Regional Art Gallery has had an exciting start to 2022, securing two grants from the NSW Government to further our free programs for teen audiences, and those living with dementia and their carers.
For teens, the Gallery is one of five recipients in the 2021 round of the Audience Development Fund, a devolved funding program of the NSW Government through Create NSW and administered by Museums & Galleries of NSW.
The awarded $10,000 will support a new program called Take One, presenting a series of labs in performance based practice at the Gallery for young creatives.
Presented in partnership with Upstage Youth Theatre, based in Maitland, participants tot eh program will connect with art and artists, develop confidence, and grow leadership and team skills. Take One will take off from April 2022.
From the NSW Department of Communities and Justice, the Gallery has received $19,206 from grant round Reducing Social Isolation for Seniors toward another year of conversations, connection and creativity at our free Art & Dementia program in 2022.
This grant program is an initiative under Ageing Well in NSW: Seniors Strategy 2021–2031.
Art & Dementia is a 90 minute social and creative tour of our exhibitions, hosted at the Gallery three times a month and created specifically for people living with dementia and their carers.
The sessions are guided by a trained facilitator who uses art as a trigger for conversation and self expression through art making, and is a great opportunity for those living with dementia and their carers to reconnect, and for carers to connect with each other. To book, visit our What’s On.
