Continuing his mix of water and words, and revisiting his past, local author Scott Bevan launches his latest book, Return To The Hunter.
The book sees the return to print of the original The Hunter, along with additional chapters telling of a new paddling adventure along the region’s defining river, as Scott charts change in the decade since his last journey.
Return To The Hunter will be launched by Scott’s friend and paddling buddy, legendary Australian film director Bruce Beresford.
Join us for a conversation between these two kayaking mates, as they discuss the book, the joys and challenges of paddling, and how to propagate a friendship by just adding water.

Bio
Scott Bevan is a Lake Macquarie-based writer, broadcaster and documentary maker.
But both his parents grew up in East Maitland, so he is almost a Maitland person.
As well as writing Return To The Hunter, Scott has written a handful (or more) of books, including The Harbour, Bill: The Life of William Dobell, and The Lake.
He is the director, writer and presenter of documentaries, including an hour-long program for the ABC based on his book, The Hunter, along with the feature-length Arthur Phillip: Governor, Sailor Spy for the ABC.
Scott has written three plays that have been produced, with the latest, The Rest Is Silence, staged by Newcastle Theatre Company in 2022.
When not writing, he enjoys kayaking and supporting the Hunter’s economy by drinking a glass or two of red – although he rarely pursues those two interests simultaneously.
Bruce Beresford has directed 34 feature films, including a highly regarded handful – Dons Party, Breaker Morant, Driving Miss Daisy (which won the Academy Award for Best Film), Double Jeopardy, Black Robe and Ladies in Black.
Bruce has also directed operas in Australia, USA and Italy and has written two books, mainly centred around his bizarre film experiences.
