This textile installation, and related creative artefacts, aims to challenge hegemonic masculinity by re-interpreting the culturally defined feminised practices of textiles crafts, as ‘masculine’. Textiles crafts are highly gendered craft activities with the majority of participants being female. This is true of knitting with most of the ‘knitting narrative’ belonging to women. This research project aims to readdress this by finding a means to make knitting more accessible to men. Thus, challenging hegemonic masculinity by re-interpreting culturally defined feminising practices as ‘masculine’.
