Tuesday 26 September

14 – 19 years

Matthew will guide you through a range of approaches to using colour with acrylic paint and mediums
The projects will challenge your colour mixing and painting process and they can be done as stand alone projects or integrated into your personal painting practice.
It would be great if you can bring sketches, photos, drawings or notes of work you are already doing that can be integrated into the program and responded to in the practice.
These ideas include using tonal relationships, colour saturation, transparency and opacity to make exciting vibrant paintings.
The workshop will explore some colour theory with illustrations and demonstrations and focus on a few key topics that will help with a painting practice at any level.
- The relationship between colour and tonal value.
- Using saturation and reduction
- Transparency and opacity in indirect colour mixing (glazes and washes).
- Being creative with your approach to colour – develop your instincts.
Matthew Tome has a wealth of experience in creating and teaching art and is a master of colour. His practice is centred on paintings that explore natural forms interwoven with layers of colour in wash and glaze. He works across painting, drawing and printmaking. He spent lockdown making long studies of trees that are informing his current work.
