Join Bastian Fox Phelan – writer, zine-maker and curator of the upcoming Eco Zine project – in this fun, hands-on zine making workshop, Bastian will run through the basics of zine making and show you how to make a mini zine as well as an A5 booklet zine. The focus when creating your zine will be on your thoughts and feelings about nature and the local environment, sustainability, and climate change.

HOW TO DRAW PORTRAITS

Ages 13 – 18 years

Join artist educator Ileana Clarke and life model Belle Beasley in a dynamic drawing class looking at portraiture. In the first hour Ileana will guide you through a series of drawing exercises that focus on techniques specific to portraiture. In the second hour you have the opportunity to test out the techniques you have learned drawing directly from a clothed life model.

PORTRAITS FROM THE COLLECTION TOUR WITH CURATOR, BELLE BEASLEY

This is a Youth Week Teen Event | Free | All welcome

Join dancer, writer, and curator Belle Beasley for a tour of the exhibition ‘Introductions: Portraits from the Collection,’ which she co-curated with MRAG Collections Management Curator Cheryl Farrell. In this tour, Belle will delve into the many interesting stories she uncovered while researching the artworks she selected for this exhibition. Belle will also share insights into her time as a curatorial intern at the Gallery.

Come along to Free Art Sunday, our weekly program connecting children and families with art through hands-on activities facilitated by our friendly Art Tutors, and with something unique every week inspired by what’s on display.

TINKY ART TRAIL

Miniature installation artist Tinky has created an art trail especially for MRAG titled Escapade. With this art trail, you will discover ten of Tinky’s wonderfully absurd dioramas which encourage intimate experiences with art in unexpected places.

 

ACTIVITY STATION

Get creative amongst Introductions | Portraits from the MRAG Collection, an exhibition of some of the Gallery’s most loved portraits with two activity sheets. Draw a 2D cartoon character inspired by two depictions of RB Clark’s comic-strip character, Boofhead. Then try your hand at creating an expressive portrait after Davida Allen’s artwork Self Portrait with Horse.

 

CODE BREAKERS

We’ll get you looking up, down and all around the gallery these school holidays with a Code Breaker art trails. Pick-up a clipboard from the front desk and wander through the gallery exploring the art on display whilst hunting for clues to crack the code!
